For those who don’t read French, the text in the picture says “She leaves him he kills her”. It’s on a wall in a street in Brussels, since the day for elimination of violence against women.
This morning I finally read an article about the veil (in French) that I totally agree with. It usually doesn’t happen with this debate that I agree with everything someone says, that I find someone that makes exactly my point (much better than I would have done it). Interesting to note that this article has been written by a transgender person, I guess experiencing life both as a woman and as a man has given him the perspective to undersand what the issue is really about.
He says that “Le corps des femmes, voilé et dévoilé, est toujours traité comme une page blanche où s’inscrivent la loi patriarcale, la loi coloniale ou la loi du marché“, meaning that women’s bodies are always treated as a white page where (men) write upon the patriarcal law, the colonial law and the market law. There it is.
My sister once told me, many years ago, at least 20, that what (male-dominated) societies consider beautiful (for a woman) depends on the economy. If the economy is going well, the society wants women to be round (see Marilyin Monroe), if the economy is not going well, women has to be as thin as possible (see recent years’ top models). Why do you have to use women’s body to prove your point??!Why do women have to reflect the economy that you are fxxxing up?
The philosopher who wrote the article continues by saying that women’s bodies are like billboards for political propaganda. Asking a Muslim woman in France to remove her veil is a political weapon used by the national-patriarcal (white and male) élite to send acolonial and racist message to the patriarcal-muslim and migrant clan. The hair of the republican girls against the veil of the racialised girls.
If you are thinking that I am exaggerating or that I am being unnecessarily angry it’s because what I say makes you unfoncomfortable.
